The basic question I have is this: why is a dart length of 6-7 feet so universal amongst modern atlatlists, when I have better luck with heavy darts about 4 feet long?
Now for the background..... First off, understand that I'm no expert at all with atlatls. I just tinker on my own and make things that work for me. I'm not trying to replicate anything, just trying to make an effective weapon. One of the major components of both my darts and atlatls is duct tape because it's quick and easy, which are deciding factors when you view all your creations as prototypes and/or expendable ammo.
All my points are either blunt, unknapped citronel pebbles or copper tubing that I've flattened in a vise and filed edges on. Both are hafted with duct tape and (for the blunts) tongue depressors. I also...
